Free Fall Prevention Balance Screening
In recognition of National Falls Prevention Awareness Day, the VNA of Care New England will be conducting a Fall Prevention Balance Screening on September 23, 2010 at Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Parkway, Warwick, at 11 am. The screening will assess stationary and active reactions and general risk factors that can contribute to falls. Mayor Scott Avedisian will be a special guest. Bereavement Support Group
Our Hospice bereavement support group provides an opportunity to share memories of loved ones and receive support from others who have experienced a similar loss.  The group will meet every Thursday for six weeks starting September 23, through October 28, 4-6pm, at the Pilgrim Senior Center on 27 Pilgrim Pky. in Warwick.  Please register for with Rev. W&I To Hold Flu Clinic For Pregnant, Recent Postpartum Patients
W&I will be holding another public flu clinic to vaccinate pregnant women and postpartum patients against the H1N1 virus. In order to protect one of the most vulnerable populations against the H1N1 flu, Women & Infants will be holding two public flu clinics to vaccinate pregnant women and recent postpartum patients against the virus. Each holiday season, the VNA of Care New England displays the Circle of Love and Light wreath in honor of those who we have lost.  Accompanying this is the commemorative memory scroll which lists the names of those honored.  Your donation not only serves as a moving tribute, but also supports our Hospice Program.  Learn More

VNA Postpones Seasonal Flu Clinics
Like many health care providers, the VNA is being affected by a delay in seasonal flu vaccine deliveries.  Due to this delay, we have temporarily postponed our flu clinics. Please be sure to check your local paper for clinics in your area or call our flu hotline at 401-681-1102.  For more information about the flu virus and tips on how to protect you and your family, click here.

NIH Workshop Focused on Women's Health Research
The Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) is holding the third in a series of public hearings and scientific workshops to update the Women's Health Research Agenda at the NIH. The meeting, approved for CME credits, is being co-hosted this week by the ORWH, Women & Infants and The Warren Alpert Medical School. Learn more

Free Wellness Clinics
Each month VNA of Care New England offers free wellness clinics where participants can have their blood pressure, heart rate, and glucose levels checked. Our wellness nurses also help people learn about their medications and find community and federal resources to meet their needs. Find a clinic near you.

Comfortable recovery with skilled nursing
With the assistance of our skilled nursing staff, post-surgical patients can get help during the recovery period. Their home visits offer patient care for physical and emotional support.

Getting Stronger at Home with Rehab Therapy
Rehab therapists from VNA of Care New England help physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy patients who are recovering at home after surgery or heart disease, regain their strength.

Telehealth Helps Patients at Home
Cardiac patients need to pay close attention to blood pressure and weight gain. Some cardiac patients can be monitored daily by sending that info to a nurse at VNA of Care New England, thanks to our easy-to-use technology, Telehealth.

Hundreds Rally at State House in Support of RIte Care Program
Hundreds of supporters convened at the Rhode Island State House to let the legislators know that some of the cuts in the proposed 2011 budget would cause irreparable damage to the State’s heralded RIte Care program for women and children. Learn More

A Time for Remembrance
Please join us for our Annual Interfaith Memorial Service to honor hospice patients and their families on Wednesday, May 5 at 6:00 pm, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 3257 Post Road, Warwick, RI. The non-denominational ceremony will include the reading of our Roll of Remembrance, honoring all who have passed away in our hospice service since April 1, 2009. The leaders of Lifespan and Care New England announced that they have withdrawn their application currently pending before the Rhode Island Department of Health and Rhode Island Attorney General to merge these two organizations. Press Release

Just Breathe
Do you have a pulmonary condition and want to learn proper breathing techniques?  Learn how the change in season, humidity, and seasonal allergens can affect people with breathing challenges.  The workshop will be held on April 14, at the Cranston Senior Center.
